One World One Heart

I heard about this wonderful tradition that has developed in the last few years. Lisa "oceandreamer" Swifka came up with the idea of One World-One Heart in 2007 to coordinate a giveaway to introduce bloggers to one another. She and most of the participants are artists, so you could be a fortunate recipient of a piece of beautiful art.

Winning the giveaway isn't really the point. (Of course, everyone likes to be a winner.) It's a way to touch other people's hearts in a sincere manner. It fosters an audience for new and established blogs. It's an icebreaker to encourage people to introduce themselves on a global level.

Maybe I can knit something for next year's event, but not this year. I don't need the pressure of the deadline looming over my head. It would probably not get completed in a timely fashion. It's also possible the recipient might not live in a cold climate. My inspiration has come from

I could give one item to two individuals, but I'm opting for one winner. They complement each other, and they don't seem to want to be separated.

Ann Hood writes about the searing irrational nature of grief in one of the most profound books I've read on the grieving process. This is high praise, because I've read a lot of books on the subject as I've been wending my way through widowhood. I had been curious about Into White, but hadn't listened to any of the tracks before I received it as a gift from my sister Barbara. She gave it to me a week after my husband Michael died. It was the perfect collection of lullabyes to salve my wounded heart. I hope the combination will help someone else in their dark night of the soul. It's not a question of "if" you'll experience a devastating loss of a loved one--but "when". What I've learned along the way is that we get by with a little help from our friends and the kindness of strangers.
I found out through my Thanksgiving giveaway that I NEED each person's email address or active blog link in the comment. There were many people I wanted to contact personally after I read the comments and couldn't. Even if you have a Blogger account, I need a way to contact you directly to inform you that you've won. If you'd like to join in the fun, please leave your comment on this post (only).
Thank you for stopping by my virtual home. Comments will close at 12:00 a.m. EST on February 12. There will be a random drawing of the commenters, and I will announce the winner's name on my blog on February 12, 2009. Let's spread the love!

Dear Mary,

I am sorry for your loss. I too have been grieving but for different reasons. Grief is grief and sometimes stops us in our tracks. The only word I have for it shattering. It's like living in a fractured world. Please know that I believe that this too shall pass. Somedays are easier than others.
Peace and love.

Oh, what a lovely giveaway. I have tears in my eyes right now - my granddad passed, very suddenly and unexpectedly, a month ago yesterday, and I am having a hard time dealing with it. If I don't win, perhaps I'll have to go out and get the book and CD for myself! At any rate, please count me in. I think it is a lovely thing to offer to others the things that were comforts to you in your own grieving. I know every loss is profoundly individual, but there is a common thread in how grief works, even so.

Please do feel free, too, to stop by my blog to enter my own OWOH giveaway.

Well, it has been a real treat to visit your blog this morning. I love the Bukowski poem. I used to make broadsides (letterpress printing on a Vandercook press) and haven't heard the word "broadside" for so long, thought the world had forgot about them. But, the poem was very profound. I hope you continue finding your way through! And, I agree this is not about the giveaways. I'm just interested in meeting people. HOpe you can come meet me too if you haven't already.

What a lovely tribute. My prayers to you and I sincerely hope that you find your way if you haven't already. Music is the gift of the soul. Like you, it soothed me when I was first widowed. Certain songs still make my breath gasp and falter - to this day I cannot listen to James Taylor's Fire and Rain without tears. But God moves mysteriously and I have been blessed again to be in a warm, loving relationship.

It is very brave of you to post such an event that may be painful and I commend you. I really do.

Your giveaways are wonderful - truly. Based on your description, I do understand why you would opt to share these things because they really do seem to comfort you.

Reading a wonderful book and listening to beautiful music can really make a difference.
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my Mother in September and the book sounds just like what I need to read.

Oh, please enter me in your drawing. I think this may be something that we all need. I'm going to jot down the titles, just in case I don't win. ;) I lost a dear friend in October. Not my first loss or my last, I know, but the first of a friend and it was totally unexpected. Anyway, I think the book is something I'll be checking into. It always amazes me what can bring the grief crashing down again after it's been a while. You know what I mean?

Anyway, on to other subjects for a moment. I'm on the OWOH list also. If you have time, come by tonight before it all ends and see if you want to enter my drawing. I'm #707.

It's been a pleasure. Now, I'm going to look over your blog a bit more.

That is a very thoughtful giveaway. Inspiration. I am sure many of us, me included, could always do with more inspiration.
Please enter me into the draw and thanks for your generosity.
